A workshop on the development of wind power in Belarus took place in Minsk

A workshop on the development of wind power in Belarus within the framework of the project “Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus” was held in Minsk on 17 November 2016.

The workshop brought together a wide range of experts in the field of renewable energy development in Belarus, it became a platform for a broad discussion of the implementation of the project “Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus”, of common issues of the sector, problems and ways to address them effectively.

The following presenters took part in the workshop and gave their speeches: Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Khrushchev, Deputy Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Belarus Ekaterina Paniklova, First Deputy Director of the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus Viktor Akushko, Head of the project “Removing Barriers for Wind Power Development in Belarus” Marina Belous, Executive Director of the Association “Renewable energy” Vladimir Nistsyuk, as well as international and local consultants of the project.
Representatives of the media were invited to cover the event.


Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Khrushchev, addressed the participants of the workshop with an opening statement, denoting the importance of the development of wind power in our country and around the world. He stressed the relevance of the workshop in the background of the ongoing UN World Conference on Climate Change (COP22) in Morocco (from 7 to 18 November 2016), where took part the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus Andrei Kovhuto as the head of the Belarusian delegation.

Deputy Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Belarus, Ekaterina Paniklova, greeted the participants in the Belarusian language and noted the importance of implementation of the international technical assistance project “Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus”. Mrs. Paniklova highly estimated the participation of the Republic of Belarus in multilateral international treaties in the field of environmental protection and the ongoing efforts in this sphere to implement the strategy for the development of renewable energy sources in Belarus. Deputy Permanent Representative of the UNDP wished fruitful work to all the participants of the workshop.

First Deputy Director of the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus, Viktor Akushko, spoke at the workshop about the policy carried out in the Republic of Belarus in the field of renewable energy, including the adopted regulatory legal acts in this field, as well as on the work done, which allowed to reach the share of renewable energy sources in the gross consumption of fuel and energy resources at the level of 5.5%.

International and local consultants of the project addressed the participants of the workshop with their prepared proposals to improve the legislation on renewable energy development, as well as the technical requirements governing the field of wind power.

The agenda of the workshop allowed for some time to discuss the presentations of the speakers and related questions from the participants.

During the active discussion, the participants of the workshop stated their opinions and comments on how to improve the proposals developed by the project consultants.

At the end of the workshop, Executive Director of the Association “Renewable Energy”, Vladimir Nistsyuk, summarized the results of the event and pointed out the great importance of the work that is carried out within the framework of the project “Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus”.
