Belarusian data portal “Greenmap” wins in Switzerland

The prize of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) - WSIS Prizes 2017 was held from 12 to 16 June in Geneva (Switzerland). This event gathered 345 participants from throughout the world to assess and recognize the contribution of various public and private institutions to the development of information and communication technologies in order to achieve sustainable development. The UN General Assembly is the organizer of the prize.

A total of 18 categories were announced. The projects of the winners of each several category will be included in the publication “Examples of WSIS work proven experience, 2017”.

On 15 June it got about that that the Belarusian project was named the best in the category “E-environment”. “Greenmap” provides information on the locations where you can sell for recycling paper, plastic, glass and other waste, as well as recyclables. It is worthy of note that that the resource provides data on installation sites of such environmental facilities as solar panels, solar collectors, biogas plants, hydro and wind power plants.

Information on the location of wind power generators is displayed on the interactive map of Belarus, where the name of a facility and its coordinates, the name of an operating organization, start-up date, plant capacity, the amount of annual energy yield and a number of additional data are pointed out.

“Greenmap” is the project of “The Center for Environmental Solutions” supported by the project “Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus”. It is implemented by United Nations Development Programme and funded by the European Union.
