Belarus plans to produce electric vehicles

At the meeting on the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Belarus at the present stage the Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei reported that Belarus is working with several foreign companies (including American and German ones) over the producibility of electric vehicles in the Belarusian free economic zones or in the Great Stone industrial park.

It is a reminder that as early as last year’s September the Belgee plant announced the development of a Belarusian electric car. In accordance with the strategy of the Geely Company itself called Blue Geely, which provides for the gradual substitution of cars with traditional ICEs for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles, it is planned to produce electric cars that will complement the already-existing models at the plant. Later, in December 2016, the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov informed that the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is developing a domestic electric car. It is estimated that the already-existing Geely SC7 model produced in our country will serve as a prototype. The new electric vehicle is planned to be equipped with a Chinese-made battery pack and a domestic electric motor. Also in January of this year, the Chief Scientific Secretary of the NAS of Belarus professor Alexander Kilchevsky stated that the first tests and the results of work on the Belarusian electric vehicle can be seen as early as at the end of 2017.

In order for electric transport in our country to develop and function successfully, it is primarily necessary to develop a network of service stations for electric vehicles. This goal is covered by the concept for the development of motorway service in Belarus, which was built up until 2020. According to this concept, the construction of retail facilities, public catering units, and new gas stations is planned, including the establishment of a network of 500 stations for electric vehicles.

It is also necessary to point out that the development of electric transport in our country is especially topical in connection with the commissioning of the first plant unit of Belarusian NPP in 2019 and the expected surplus of electric power.

Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that the development of electric transport in our country stands to win, and in the future electric vehicles will occur increasingly frequently on the roads of our country.

Finally, we bring to your notice a video demonstrating the capabilities of modern electric vehicles. An experimental electric car Air of the Lucid Motors Company with a capacity of 1000 horsepower reached a speed of 377.29 kilometers per hour. Large-scale production of this model is planned next year; the electric vehicle will be equipped with two sets of batteries with a capacity of 100 or 130 kWh. The run of the electric car without recharging will reach 640 kilometers.
