On December 12-15, 2017, a visit of a delegation of the Republican Centre for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control and Environmental Monitoring (hereinafter, Belgidromet) to the Republic of Poland for the purposes of learning about the experience of the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, and its subdivisions, was organized under the International Technical Assistance Project "Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus". During the visit, Belarusian professionals examined in detail the specific aspects of operation of the Polish Hydrometeorological service for the purpose of adopting the most advanced practices and improving the performance of Belgidromet.
Polish experts made reports and presentations about the stricture of the hydrometeorological surveillance network in the Republic of Poland, about arrangement of radar monitoring and aerological observations, about their storm direction finding system, about their telecommunications and data transfer system, and about existing software packages for interpreting the observation data.
At the arranged bilateral meetings, the Belarusian and Polish colleagues were able to discuss in detail the draft 2018-2023 operational/production cooperation programme. They agreed in principle about their readiness to sign the programme after its completion and introduction of adjustments. The Polish party confirmed its readiness to transfer its operational radar observation data to the Belarusian Hydrometeorological service.
The parties agreed on establishment of Belarusian/Polish working groups in miscellaneous activity areas (meteorological forecasts, radar observations, hydrology, meteorological services for aviation, etc.) in order to further develop the integration processes between the meteorological services of Belarus and Poland and expand the spheres of their interaction.
