A meeting of the Steering Committee of the international technical assistance project on Removing Barriers to Wind Power Development in Belarus was held on April 20, 2018.
Carrying out the approved work plan activities, the Project closely cooperates with public stakeholders and NGO representatives. The meeting was attended by the Committee members and invited professionals from various institutions, ministries and agencies (MNREP, Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, Ministry of Energy, State Committee for Standardization, UNDP, BelGIE, Renewable Energy Association, Green Economy NGO, et al.).
Alexander Korbut, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus opened the meeting with a welcome address, introduced the participants and announced the agenda,
In order to provide for the most appropriate disbursement of international technical assistance funds, the Project Manager Maryna Belavus proposed to consider new 2018 work plan activities at the Steering Committee meeting including research of RES sector development and green energy export with regard to the best interest of the Republic of Belarus; development of proposals on management of the daily supply schedule to the Belarusian grid by RES plants; conduct of additional activities to promote wind energy, et alia.
In the course of a dynamic discussion, the meeting participants expressed their opinions and comments on the proposed activities and suggested ways of addressing bottlenecks in their implementation. The meeting also considered establishment of an efficient working group comprising representatives of national government stakeholders to draft the Strategy of Renewable Energy Development in the Republic of Belarus. The meeting participants also shortlisted organizations capable of assisting the project with drafting proposals on introduction of amendments into the Law of the Republic of Belarus on Renewable Energy Sources.
Summing up the event, Ms Maryna Belavus expressed her appreciation to those present for their active engagement in the project implementation.
